Cares of the World

church

We mentioned earlier that one of the ways we can turn our backs on God is by getting carried away with the things of the World. Life, especially in a big city like London, can be very fast paced and busy. Walking around in Stratford and going from door to door, it is quite evident to see how busy people are. Too busy even to have a short conversation. I wonder however, if one presented themselves as someone who could help individuals to get rich quickly whether they could find time to listen?

People are interested in Material blessings, but quickly shy away when offered spiritual blessings. The blessings that God really wants them to have, the things which they truly need. Mankind has become so obsessed with riches and material possessions that he has turned his back on the spiritual side to life. He lets the love of money, education, careers and families take so much precedence in his life, that he leaves little space for God.

The material things of life are like weeds choking our spiritual lives and the more we feed them, more we neglect, choke and strangle the spiritual. Jesus told a parable in Matt 13:22 saying that some of us when we hear the good news, allow the riches and cares of the world to cause the word to fall amongst the thorns where it is choked to death. Mark 8 v 36 asks the question what benefit is it to you if you have all the material possessions and wealth and treasure of this life, but you allow them to cause you to miss out on the true treasure of eternal life?

Matt 6 v 19-20 teaches that the real treasures are the ones which cannot be destroyed or taken away. We all will face death one day. After all death is a part of life. When we die we can take nothing with us, no cars, no jewellery, no mobile phones, for we entered this life naked and naked we shall depart taking nothing with us Eccl 5 v 15.
